  • Posted to Ask DN: I need a new mouse. What would you recommend?, Jun 16, 2016

Magic Mouse 2 has a built-in battery and charges via lightning cable. The placement of the charge port is terrible, but I upgraded for the sole purposes of not replacing batteries every other week. The old magic mouse ate batteries like crazy.

Getting the Magic Mouse 2 was huge, and I have to plug it in maybe once a month. No more batteries!

    N1

I've been using this for a few weeks alongside Airmail to try to figure out which one I like better. I like N1 quite a bit, but haven't made a decision yet. It could still use some visual work, i'm sure, but the mail syncing is perfect.

Disclaimer: This is my own product.

    https://fridgecms.com/signup

I've been running an API based CMS named Fridge for a few years now. I'm getting ready to open it up to the public, but haven't finished a marketing site and the pricing. Sign up is limited to a free plan.

You should definitely check it out. It has documentation and API libraries for Ruby, Javascript, and PHP and a Jekyll plugin for building static sites. (https://github.com/fridge-cms)

As a diehard fan of Firefly, I can't help but to support this project. Though, it's not like they need anymore money, dang.

  • Posted to ASK DN: What monitors are you using?, in reply to Sean O'Grady , Aug 21, 2014

Yep, same. Loving this monitor. I use the DisplayPort connection to get audio/video from one cable, to keep my setup tidy. The speakers that come with it are pretty awful, but what do you expect from speakers inside a monitor?

  • Posted to LG explains its UI for the G3, Jun 30, 2014

While the effects in the video are stunning, I couldn't help but be bothered by how they claim flat design = better GUI. If I go and make all my icons flat, does that mean people will be able to easily use my software now? If flat design and long drop shadows are not just a design trend, why is that so, LG?

I felt that Google sold their new design decisions (Android L) much better.

  • Posted to Ask DN: Which shell do you use, and why?, Jun 23, 2014

Using zsh with Antigen for managing plugins.

Been meaning to try fish shell recently, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I've found that the argument for using a particular shell because it is the "default" on servers etc, doesn't really hold. Most people who are using the command line also have a laundry list of shortcuts, aliases and functions that help them do things. Without your exact setup when jumping on a server, it doesn't really matter anymore which shell you are using.

P.S. The best zsh theme EVER: https://github.com/sindresorhus/pure
