It has been slide to unlock as long as I can remember.
And touch on edge to edge screen must be very frustrating to work with.

Well, it is not only about updating to new standards... that is just fine and expected. The problem raised here is their inconsistent use of the standards.
When they release two new products and one has a headphone jack and the other uses Lightning, one uses USB-C the other Lightning, it is bound to be a chaotic dongle jungle.
