I was just starting to think I was a good web developer again too.

Slack does hinder it if you let it be a micro-distractor. If you set time aside during the day to focus just on slack affairs then you're best off. I typically take 15 - 20 minutes every 3 hour period to check it out and that gets so much more done than email ever would.

To answer the first question though, I like being apart of them because they're good for throwing your problem into and seeing what feedback or opinions come back. It's an opportunity for networking and maybe you even get to help someone through their problem - which is fulfilling in it's own right.

    Slack responsibly!

I love this. Unfortunately I just moved away from Github but this is fantastic.

I think it's a beautiful idea on paper but eventually the line gets blurred and then it turns into the same old song and dance.

Starting one wouldn't be difficult (hell even creating something bespoke wouldn't be out of the question) but the evolution of what we do is by nature sharing and gaining exposure for the works of art we produce.

no product releases, no external articles and no lists

This is hard to enforce those ideals without being heartless. If something like that existed I'd be 100% for it and would definitely contribute, but it would take a hell of a team to make it a notable resource among my moshpit of semi-forgotten resources.

Love it when new services come around, but the name just strikes me as a childish rip-off of CodePen.

100% for a new competitor into the field but the name is just distasteful.

The boilerplates are a cool idea but I (personally) believe they should all achieve the same goal (timer, increment/decrement buttons or whatever).
