hey, this looks really nice and clean. I really like it! Is there a switch or field for other currencies? Would be really nice to use with € also.

Hey, it totally depends on your product. Are your customers easy to find? Can you maybe hang out at a coffee place all day and just randomly ask people for their time and feedback for a gift card or even just a free coffee? I am working for a company where we are creating products for very specific users so we hire an agency specialized in user research. They have a huge list of test participants where we can choose exactly the users we usually would also address with our product. But using an agency is for sure not only paid with gift cards... Hope this helps at least a bit. Cheers Jenny

  • Posted to Ask DN: How many hours a week do you work?, Sep 15, 2016

Hey, nice approach. I hope it will work out for you. I'm working in a huge company in Germany and we have a strong labour union. Therefor we have a weekly working time of 35 hours and also a system of wages. All in all it is really transparent for everyone. Weekly working hours can only be increased temporarily to 38h or 40h for 3 months, maximum 6 months a year. But only a small percentage of the employees can do these extra hours. If we are working overtime I have to take time off - maximum 4 days per month, if I remember correctly. There is also a warning sytem if employees have more than 30 over hours and a stop at 60 over hours, where there are "forced" to take time off. Coming from an agency prior to that position at the huge company I was sometimes even working on the weekends. Personally I can say that the 35h week is much better now - I am way more productive, motivated and also more creative. So I end up being much more satisfied with my outcome at work and also with my private life. More time for sports, relaxing and most important: time with friends. So I can stronly recommend to try out limiting the working hours per week, but this is a personal perspective. Some colleagues do side projects like renovating a house on their own or doing other creative work. They really enjoy the freedom they have with the 35h week. And people are so satisfied that most of them stay really long in the company - some even celebrate their 25th anniversary at the company.

I wish you good luck and hope it works out for you.

  • Posted to Ask DN: Which car do you drive?, Dec 18, 2014

I drive a 30 year old Golf Mk2 I got from my grandmother a few years ago. Really lovely car as there is almost nothing to care about. People usually pimp them a lot but mine is completely original and I'm not going to change that.

    Nice portfolios up there!

So far only my projects from university. Can't show the stuff I made at work so far.

I can definitely say the same. I'm using a Dyson Animal Pro vacuum cleaner and it is just awesome.

  • Posted to What does a Product Designer do?, in reply to Sean Geraghty , Apr 25, 2014

Well the same applies for Germany. I also studied Product/Industrial Design where we were strongly focussing on 3D design which also includes modeling, rendering, sketching and research and concepts. So the field of study starts with a general "problem" and process and solution of solving this problem. I also sometimes call it innovator studies. For quite a while now this field of study also implies interface design. As others already mentioned the product designer is focussing on the whole product from the beginning to end. Therefor a product designer can also be called a product owner. I still find it quite confusing though because I still think of a product designer as someone who deals with 3D products and not virtual ones, but as the borders between that fade I can understand the description in this context.

  • Posted to ASK DN: What Photoshop plug-in's do you use most?, in reply to Michael Sacca , Apr 07, 2014

Same thing for me. Can't life without GuideGuide. It is also the first thing we recommend to new people in the team. Other plugins are used more rarely, but will check out some of the plugins mentioned.
