Nice work -- I do research in data visualization and may be writing a formal paper soon. This is a personal research question since I see this used in a lot of maps -- what do you say is the the advantage of a discrete stepwise color scale vs a continuous gradient when expressing indiscrete linear data? I want to be able to say the pros and cons for each as I write a quick guide for mapmakers who don't have a design background to make better color-choices in their maps.

The thing is, all these new features are great, but the reason why you don’t see them being implemented is because the browsers don’t support them well. You’ve got to find a way to make it work or at least gracefully degrade. It’s a red flag for me when someone isn’t too worried about a site not working well on the browser with 63% of the desktop market share. On top of that it’s your portfolio and people will judge you by it. Still, your clients are not web experts so they probably won’t know.

if they bring their subscription pricing along with it then they’re not going to convince me to switch over from Serif

Apple support has really gone down the drain in recent years. I remember in ~2010 going to the Apple Store with an issue on my device, outside of warranty, and they just replaced it. No questions asked. Nowadays I feel like there’s no more customer service, I have really bad experiences at the Apple Store. I recently went to go pick up an iPhoneX, pre-paid for online at Apple.com, and they wouldn’t let me pick it up when I arrived with my credentials because I paid with the company card — and it’s MY company. Maybe the customer support staff does not have a concept that someone under 30 can run their own business but I had to throw a fit and threaten a refund just to pick up the device that I had already paid for.

If it’s a 13 inch, neither will the new one.

when people say that, here’s what I hear: I paid for a bunch of extra stuff that I also have to carry around everywhere just to get the same functionality that came standard in the older models.
