I really enjoy Frannerd. Her stuff isn't so much digital but she has some really good videos about process, inspiration etc.
I was recently onboarded so can give you some perspective from the other side.
It really helps if accounts are created before the new person starts, or at least anticipated. It took me weeks to be added on GitHub and months to have access to shared files. I felt like I was constantly badgering IT. Also, make sure if they have to sort out accounts themselves that you yourself know the procedure and who to contact.
Introduce them to people! If they're working in a team make sure they're introduced to everybody, not just the designers. I found it so difficult to talk to someone when I didn't know their name, let alone what they did.
Explain your acronyms! A wiki is good for this.
Did you even see the video? It looks pretty fun.
Yeah, I struggled to get the team to understand that users expect to scroll at my previous job. The next step is going to be removing all images on mobile.
I recently worked on a design exercise as a pre-requisite before an interview. I actually really appreciated having the opportunity to do this as I'm trying to go from more graphic/web design into product design. I have to admit I did put a lot of time into it and if I had kids or any other commitments outside of work I would have struggled. The exercise had me choose any software I wanted.
I'm a bit on the fence. In my case, it gave me an opportunity to work on a product related task outside of my personal projects. I really did enjoy doing it and later walking through it with someone from the company. I imagine it's useful for applicants who are just starting out and perhaps don't have much to show in their portfolio. However, it was a lot of work to potentially not even get an interview. I'd struggle to do this for every job I applied for.
I work in a noisy, open office so some kind of music is a must. The Minecraft soundtrack helps me work, actually!
I really dislike the progression indicator followed by the skeleton UI. It makes it feel so slow because there's such an emphasis put on both of those loading views.
Aw man, I was looking at FarmLogs during my job search and totally wished you were based over in the UK. It looks like SUCH an interesting product to work on. How do you enjoy it?
I think I will. Thank you!
