It's become a core part of the overall improvement in stock imagery on the web and has saved my bacon a few times when I've need to use really beautiful stock images. I stay awake at night trying to work out how they did the animations...

Don't think anything was wrong with any of the covers they designed, especially the final 5 they picked. Think the whole issue was a case of "staring at the obvious for so long, it became blurred".
