    I don't think focus groups should ever be used for research. They introduce too much bias; there are always one or two vocal people that can influence other's responses.

    I'm not saying that Apple doesn't user test - I believe they would have to in order to create such a great experience. I just like to use this speculative story to draw people into the benefits of user testing.

    Finally, I believe that usability testing = user testing. It's the same technique, just different labels. As I'm sure you know, a great experience is built on two things; how much value a product/service offers a user, and how usable that value is.

    That's why I don't like calling it 'usability testing' because we're testing more than 'usability'. I understand that 'user testing' isn't a perfect label too because it sounds like we're testing the user not the design. Maybe we should call it experience testing instead?
