This is a really cool technique. I'm surprised you don't see it used more. If you're into scanner photography, Tori Amos did her album art and all the singles for From the Choirgirl Hotel using a giant person-sized flatbed scanner.

I'd be surprised if the drop had anything to do with the redesign. It's probably more to do with Rihanna and other social media influencers telling their fans to abandon it.

I use an IFTTT recipe tied to my Pinboard. I just bookmark the image and tag it "autopost" and it goes into my Tumblr queue. It's nice because you can do it with a bookmarklet and you don't need a separate app.

I also have other recipes where I can tag other types of posts as "vidpost" or "autolink" but don't use those as often.
