The first point in the article really isn't realistic. It seems like the authors personal opinion and feeling towards design which is not applicable to all designers. It is more than possible to enjoy what you do but find fulfillment/love in other aspects of your life while still being a great designer and being able to successfully move past inevitable frustrations that will be faced in the process of designing.
