I've been thinking about this for a while... Over the past year I've been creating illustrations for blog posts that have a one-time use. I'd be ready to upload them to a site if it could be used by others for their own projects. I'm sure I can convince other friends to do so!

  • Posted to Ask DN: Coworking space vs. cafe , Sep 21, 2016

I've dedicated a room in the apartment for all my office needs. I wake up, and get straight to work. I'll still go to a café to meet up with some friends or clients just because it's more convenient (I'll do that at least once or twice a week, 2-3 hours max) + as a freelance designer you get to expense a portion of your rent, internet and electricity/heating bills.

Working at a coworking space gives me anxiety: just like working at a full-time job. I'll spend at least 2-3 hours getting ready + commuting to and from said space, bring a lunch or spend money + I have to small talk :| Kidding I love people.

And for those who can't decide, there's the coworking/café combination at Crew. lulz.

Dropping the I. It's all about X from now on; at least in 2016.

I love restaurants. I love design. I definitely will be referring to this article in years to come. Thanks!

  • Posted to Ask DN: Why can't we have brands that last?, Oct 14, 2015

My first job as a designer was at an Apparel Company creating graphics for Private Label brands. My boss would hand me a pair of denim jeans and ask me to create a graphic in the back pockets. I would get some plain white Ts, and they'd ask me to illustrate something crazy, with 3-4 colours.

Why can't we simply admire what is not there? There will always be a white t-shirt and the white tee will stand the test of time. That graphic of a wolf? Not so much.

It's funny. We pay more for things today that are unbranded.

As for design and startups, the turnover rate is so high that every year a new designer with fresh ideas comes in and wants to shake things up.

They get in the CEOs head and boom, all of a sudden the company needs a fresh image.

I know, I was one of them!
