This used to be the case with old versions of Foundation but I have found 6 to be very minimalistic and easy to 'theme'.

Give it a trial run, I'm pretty sure you will be happily surprised.

I also think penmanship is a dying art.

I adjusted my handwriting completely once I (re)bought a fountain pen. I used to use one in school and recently got back into them. Before I changed my style to cursive I couldn't read my own notes!

I really wouldn't suggest a mix of caps and cursive but I would suggest looking/playing around with cursive.

My everyday setup is a Pilot Falcon soft extra fine (I like a flex capabilities) and a Rhodia notepad as they are great for fountain pens.
