+1 for not using Godaddy!
Use Cactus (http://cactusformac.com/). You can bootstrap a blog in 12 seconds.
I've been using Cactus for static sites. I really enjoy it and they have a pre-built starting point for a portfolio site.
I find myself enjoying Mixpanel and DigitalOcean's docs. https://mixpanel.com/help/https://www.digitalocean.com/community
I think at least with DO a big reason I like it so much is how the information is structured. They make it really easy to understand.
My intent on posting this was to show what I've been working on for the last couple months; Not to push an agenda. As was pointed out, it would probably fit better under the "Show DN" category. Sorry.
That being said, I think it's important to be open to different Ideas; especially if they challenge our own beliefs. There's some interesting research being done as well as other non-religious movements taking shape (e.g. NoFap - http://en-us.reddit.com/r/NoFap, http://www.nofap.org/). I think it's worth looking into and experimenting with.
Anyway, I appreciate you putting in your thoughts out here.
Used it on Cycleface https://www.cycleface.com/ (Rails App) J-Juice | http://vapejjuice.com/, and Perio Laser Institute | http://www.periolaserinstitute.com/ (Both Wordpress installs) I'd like to implement it on an Expression Engine site next.
I see now that "Show DN" may be more accurate; It wasn't my intent to be disingenuous. It's a rebrand that we've been working on for several months now. I figured I would share.

It depends a lot on what you're going to use the site for and how comfortable you are with web technologies.
I started out with Dreamhost back in 2007 when I didn't know anything about the web and it was fine. As I've learned more I have moved toward services like Digital Ocean and AWS. I'd jump in and figure them out. They're not as scary as they seem.
