  • Posted to MakersMusic.co - Curated mixes for you to work to, Jun 05, 2017

This was a small side project I spent a few hours on this weekend, I thought I would share it incase it's useful for anyone else.

The site is weekly curated music mixes that are for when you need to focus and just listen to music. So I don't need to waste time finding good ones anymore.

I think the left will get your more email signups, but the right seems more inviting and allows me to explore a little more - subjectively it also looks better and I'd be more likely to trust the brand.

I think there is more that can be done to the right to increase signups while still offering that exploration though.

If we are just talking visually, then the I'd prefer to use the right one.

  • Posted to How important is it to show your process? and WHY?, Nov 12, 2015

For me it's very important to show process, it explains certain decisions and will give me an insight in to how you made your decisions.

My design process is user focused and data driven, a good process can identify other opportunities or unknowns that we can test and experiment with to improve the solution for the user.

But with regards to is it important to explain it, well it really depends on the context. If you are trying to get hired - showing your process online can take some of the guess work out of the evaluation for the employer and it also allows other designers to learn from your work. Same thing in an actual interview the process is important so they can determine how you tackle problems and if that is the type of designer that would fit in well there.

If you are just flexing your UI skills and having some fun with a project, the process may not be that important.

But, I love seeing how other designers work so I can constantly improve my workflow and how I approach challenges - so I'm all for it :)

    Hey Ewen,

You are totally right, as a first post I took the easy way out and played it really safe.

I'm hoping to spend more time writing longer posts in more of an essay style, something thought provoking hopefully.

Be sure to share what you are writing as well, it would be cool to follow and see other people purposefully improving their writing throughout the year.

    Happy New Year, G

In a bid to improve my writing, I want to share more of my thoughts as posts - Medium seems like a great resource for this.

Please hit me with your brutally honest feedback on the content, style and grammar :)
