Pretty good overview of my product design philosophy and thoughts on various projects and communities I've been involved with. Feel free to ask me anything related to these topics!
Big fan of the Boxy collection of apps — and this is a long awaited upgrade!
Not my work, but love it.
Spotify has created something really special here — showing off their obsession with great and trending music, and applying their new branding and visual language extremely effectively. There are 13 editorial videos mixed in amongst the tracklist — something new for Spotify — and trending towards the kind of original content we've seen from Amazon, YouTube, and others this year. Love it!
It depends on your needs and volume of interactions, but I'd highly recommend Intercom, or some other tool like Smooch Web Messenger.
I just tried to host a live chat session with 10 people simultaneously (write up coming soon) and it was ATROCIOUS. The current Facebook Page Messages tool clearly wasn't designed to scale between many simultaneous conversations the way that messenger.com was. For now I'd suggest that you avoid Facebook's own tools if you expect to get any volume of inbounds.
You're definitely right that the trend is shaped by the popularity of messaging on mobile devices.
There's also app fatigue — in that downloading, installing, and creating accounts ad nauseum sucks, and that most tasks don't really require a full app.
So, if people are less interested in apps, how do you engage them? Go to where they are — and make it mind-numbingly simple to engage.
Here's a good use case: activating a credit card. I just got a new corp credit card and I need to visit the website or call a phone number. I'd rather just find the credit card company on Facebook and message them. If I said, "I'd like to activate my card", I'm sure their bot/agent would understand what I'm asking for, and then I could just snap a photo and be done with it.
Instead — and because it took too long for me to register my card apparently — I'm stuck in this hell where I have to call support, but they can't provide me with support until I've registered my card. I want to talk to someone, but not synchronously! Let me send a message, go about my business, and when they're ready/able to help, engage me — through a push notification from Messenger — so that I can move on.
Looks nice — appreciate their journey to get to this brand.
As a former Delicious and Ma.gnolia user, and having talked extensively with Dominik, I support his efforts to create a place to save and share the best links on the web — that are actually worth saving.
I think he needs to add a web archiving feature, but once he does that, can you really argue with his premise? No, I think not. :)
What kind of stuff will it do? Will it be universal and connect to vaporizers? The Crafty app is pretty much crap, but it does what it does, which is more than most vapes without apps can say. Tell me more!
