The whole notion of 'saving' is flawed and doesn't make sense anymore.

Would be interested to hear if you think this is a valid thought for an older audience, say 55+?

You've articulated some kind of response in these comments, but you're only giving a very narrow-minded opinion, whereas UX requires actually looking at your audience and testing what works best for their experience.

It depends on a few things:

Branding: is this an existing brand or is it new? If existing, stick to the brand guidelines around font usage. If new, consult with the business and set up some typography guidelines that are compatible and fit with their brand. Also, make sure the font can be used across all collateral (including print). Once you pick the styles, put a guide together for the business explaining the choices you've made.

Usability: there's a reason why people prefer system fonts. They're legible and you don't have to worry about loading time. (San Francisco is the system font for iOS). Also, some fonts are harder to read at a smaller size. If your app uses a lot of small font sizes, you might want to consider using one that performs well at both large and small sizes. This may be more than just picking a font, but also make sure your type is accessible (, and passes the contrast ratio (

In terms of picking a font, Google Fonts is always a great go-to. Some pretty solid sans-serif ones there are Open Sans, Roboto, Source Sans Pro, and Work Sans :)

    You should try

Not a huge fan of its mobile experience; but the web extension is pretty superb.
