  • Posted to Ask DN: Anyone else finding that Adobe programs are becoming more slower to load?, Sep 12, 2016

I have certainly noticed a slow down with the Adobe products since moving to Creative Cloud. However, what I’m seeing is less about startup times for the Adobe apps but more beach balling (on a Mac MBP i7 16GB ram, SSD) between operations. In Photoshop, I click, wait while the beach ball spins, and then resume working. Aggravating to say the least.

    Ignacio,

I'm interested in using Arq. Currently, I'm using CrashPlan to backup everything on my home network including photos. Can you discuss your choice of online backups i.e. Amazon Cloud Drive vs. Glacier? My impression is that Glacier is pretty cost effective as long-term storage.

Re: photos, In addition to multiple external hard drives, I keep one in a safe deposit box and also use Flickr and find it to be very good. I wish it supported RAW files, however.

  • Posted to Would DN be better as 'invite-only' again?, in reply to Kemie Guaida , Apr 13, 2016

I agree with you. Its getting annoying.

I’m not sure what the implications of changing this to a invite-only site would be but I’m certain that this awesome site is becoming littered with list-spam like you described. The the best part of Designer News are posts about design, practices, tools, the industry, site redesigns, and questions from designers. the other items feel like ads or spam. But its all about ratios. Currently, it appears that the uninteresting articles are growing. Eventually the ratio may become so bad that people stop visiting.

I want to second this recommendation for FreshBooks. I used them for several years and can't say enough good things about the service and their excellent support. Very friendly and easy to work with. I don't have any affiliation with them—only impressed with their product. My clients liked the service as well. Its easy for your client to review the invoices you've sent, status, etc.

    Good luck, Matt
