This is why internationally-focused apps like Headspace just use little monsters, which is clever and effective. If you live in NYC, for example, you wouldn't give a second thought to the diversity avatars, but if your product is focused on some random monoculture, the ethical politics of representation could totally backfire. Tough stuff.
