Thanks Dan for sharing your feedback.

We don't have support for guides but with the latest MAX release you can access a number of plugins within the XD app. Update XD and download the "GuideGuide" plugin. Checkout more information on XD plugins here. Do share your feedback on the GuideGuide plugin. Thanks

It's $36 for plug-ins that work in, so far, Photoshop, Illustrator, and XD. Think of it as $12 per app. This plug-in has saved me countless hours creating solid layout grids that can't be made through normal guides in ANY app, not just Adobe's.

            1) Most of us don't need this plugin to other apps. I don't even use Photoshop/Illustrator, much more prefer Afinity Designer for that kind of work. And I don't see Webdesigners and similar (core XD target) benefiting from this kind of grids outside of their main app. 2) Its 36$ PER YEAR. For a plugin. That makes guides. Sure, offers some more funtionality than the basic guides in Photoshop and Illustrator...but that's not what everyone is asking for. We want BASIC guides in XD. Which should have been implemented years ago. 3) I have around 7-8 blank files with grids that I created over the years...is there a need for more gids?

I wish you guys would hire the Guide Guide developer or buy out his code and bake his plug-in into the core of EVERY product Adobe makes.

Thank you all for the feedback. I encourage you to add your vote and comments on the request for guides here. The team uses this to help prioritize the roadmap. It is clear from the thread that you're expecting more from us in this area.

I am a big XD lover but this GuideGuide plugin is so far from what we need. This plugin just adds a simple line object which behaves like a simple layer. You can draw a rectangle on top of it and the guide will not be visible anymore. You have to move it back up on top of the layers list. Definitely not very useful. And definitely not something I'd pay $36 for it. I hope you guys see the same issue I see. Anyways, great job on the release. Looking forward for some serious improvements on Symbols. Figma/Sketch are still ahead here, and it's so important for day to day design.

Wait, there's still no guides? Haha

Yes. But you have gestures, so that's cool, right? I mean no one uses guides these days.

        Right guys? RIGHT?

Jesus, I wouldnt want to be the adobe staff here. What's with the snarky attitude? Can't you just be critical AND polite? A lot of the stuff they have implemented have been features in the top list on UserVoice. Or if you think XD is so horrible use Sketch, Figma, Affinity, there are so many to pick from. I really like it that XD is speedy and minimalistic. I hope it will continue in that direction (but with guides...).

COME ON SKETCH. RELEASE SOME BETTER ANIMATION AND PROTOTYPING CAPABILITIES, PLEASE.

Sorry for yelling, I just have more .Sketch files than I can count and really don't feel like switching to/learning a different product.

Good job XD team. Much deserved kudos!

Thanks Mike. With the MAX release we have added a number of major capabilities in XD along with regular feature updates.

XD is one of the easiest tool to learn. If you know Sketch, XD is super easy. Try opening either a Sketch file or a PSD directly into XD and start your new project. You can check out our tutorials to get started quickly. Please let us know your experience.

You can open your Sketch files directly in XD, so migrating your content over might be a lot easier than you think!

Thank you for Export to After Effects! This is going to make the animation pipeline so much easier. Sketch2AE has been buggy when working with Lottie.

XD is like one of those childhood friends you adore; but focuses on the completely wrong things yet keeps improving.

Kudos on the animation and new features. But I am still not switching back until you don't focus on what's actually important for us Designers.

Layer management and symbol management is still way more painful than Sketch. It's nice that you are releasing all these features that make my prototypes look cool, but I just can't move to XD if it is a pain to work with.

Thanks Dustin for sharing your feedback. could you please elaborate what capabilities you would like to have in XD for Layer and Symbol management.

For one, selecting layers from different groups is impossible, which makes layout way more difficult than it has to be.

Symbol management is way easier in sketch as well. I don't have to find the symbol in my document somewhere and edit it there if I have to make a change.

You can also pull symbols from libraries without having to open another document in Sketch.

And finally, while this is a plugin, duplicate in Craft for Sketch is way easier to adjust content without affecting all of the objects in the list. Right now if I adjust content in one object in XD it changes in all of them.

That's just off the top of my head.

EDIT: as others have noted, guides aren't a thing, and you can't resize symbols without affecting all of them. Those are a couple of the other issues I've run into in the past.

This is all pretty cool stuff! Great to see all this progress. There are still a couple of things missing from this, for me to be able to switch over to XD, but I can certainly see this happening in the near future.

    List:

    • Guides
    • Layout features (Basically Launchpad auto-layout, Framer X's stacks, and co)
    • Proper support for symbols
      • resizing
      • swapping symbols
    • Blend modes
    • Multiple fills and borders
    • Artboard states

Artboard states is something that would naturally go with auto-animate, since you wouldn't have to duplicate the layers, and makes it obvious which layer should transition to a new position and which should fade-in and out. To that end, having a timeline tool that lets you manually adjust the timings would be great as well.

I think it was an astonishing MAX keynote today. I was even blown away by projects I will probably never need. To start the session with basics in PS that everybody has been asking for for years was genius. And then it just ramped up.

And we're really proud to now be part of the fledgling Adobe XD plugin ecosystem with the new Astui service (https://astui.tech). But to qualify this, today we also released the same vector path optimisation (Smart Point Removal) plugin functionality for Sketch and Illustrator. From my viewpoint, I think the XD extension framework has nailed it! Adobe have turned a corner by really working with 3rd parties to a new level. Bodes very well.

Thanks Nick for your contribution in the growing XD plugin ecosystem. XD is the first example of our modern approach to extensibility and the developer ecosystem. We’re excited to continue working with partners like you and the developer community.

Was hoping symbol instances would be more powerful by now. For example yes I can change the text of a button but I still can't change the width of one button without changing them all (unless I am missing something?)

-- voice UI prototyping is very cool and unexpected. awesome :)

    • Kyle Galle, over 4 years ago

Hi Christopher, the team is continuing to enhance symbols. You are able to override text or images in symbol. I would add your vote here for support to resize individual instances of a symbol.

Glad you liked voice UI prototyping. There are more details here
