Looking for colorblind designers/art directors/creative directors

5 years ago from , Experience Designer

I had someone comment on one of my LinkedIn posts and mention that he received a degree in design, but seems to have given up on it because of colorblindness.

It seems like there's still a ton that can be accomplished as a colorblind designer, but I'd love to connect him with someone who can speak from experience. Is there anyone awesome out there that I could connect him with?

Unless he sees in black and white, I don't see how it can be that much of a hindrance. I'm red/green color blind and I actually see it as a benefit. It's obvious to me if colors aren't accessible for similar people so I never create anything that has the wrong color contrast. You still know what looks "good", and can grab colors from the 1000s of color palette websites, generators, or inspiration galleries out there.

Also Red/Green colorblind, and never had an issue. The eye dropper is your friend. Apps like SIP will tell you the color name in one sample. My wife is a color genius, so that helps, but 98% of all color choices are mine. See Squareflair.com for portfolio

Pablo Stanley of Sketch Together fame is colorblind himself! As he shared in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5xS8p5mkUo

I am also red/green color blind and for the most part haven't had an issue with it. There are so many tools in the digital age to help you identify colors and work around it. Also eventually understanding how to read the color spectrum and which colors follow which, from there is just knowing what looks good. The only time I have had issues with it was on a project where I had to photoshop some grass to match grass from another photo.. thats when you just get it as close as you can and ask for help.
