Dribbble redesigns its shot view? (dribbble.com)

So now you can upload 1600x1200 images for retina devices. Interesting. Would have loved a little heads up but.. game on!
Fuzzy shots everywhere now...
You would think they could have encouraged high-res uploads for a few months before debuting this design - everything from a couple days ago and before looks like shit now.
That's a great idea—too late now though ☹️
agreed. They should have put in place and accepted higher res shots for some time before this change. Poor foresight from the dribbble team.
It is extremely inconsistent with how they are shown. Some are big, some are small still (old size even though they are 2x)
Showing small: https://dribbble.com/shots/5009116-Ueno-Newsletter-August-21-2018 Large: https://dribbble.com/shots/5006932-Epi-3
Why the difference? Also, the whole thing just feels really unpolished now for some reason in both a modal and full page view.
The images are now always displayed at half size, so they come through sharp on HPD screens. One of those shots was uploaded at 1600x1200, the other at 800x600.
And agreed on the unpolished feel. It feels off. I think a part of it is the "edgeless" look of the modals isn't carried through anywhere else, in fact, the thumbnail view, modal view, and page view are all very inconsistent in style, the number of likes feels buried—plus more, not trying to bash too hard
ahh makes sense now. I did not get it until I got to read the new info about it on the site.
"small" images with attachments make the new layout feel broken. and this is the majority of existing shots.
I love the new feature, But it sucks that I have to scroll down all the way to the bottom right to find the number of likes. Being a creator, knowing the statistics of my post is very critical. This update ruined that to me :/
Agreed. That bugs me too! Maybe they'll see this and throw it up where the like button is
maybe it’s not all about like?
Maybe, Maybe not? But it's the post statistics that I'm talking about. I would want to know how my creation is doing, how many folks have viewed it and how many have liked it. That's the only motivation you get on Dribbble. Albeit I'm not a fan of funky GIFs and swanky gradients, I do want proper UI/UX stuff on it to be encouraged.
If you're wondering why Pinterest share is so prominent – currently about 46% of dribbble's social traffic comes from there, compared to just 20% from Facebook, 11% from YouTube and 8% from Twitter
Thank you. That's exactly what I was wondering! (The phrase "Share on Pinterest" still bugs me since it's inconsistent with the label on Pinterest, which is "Save" not "Share".)
Looks half-baked.
Now if only we use video files for animated shots...
Really liking the ability for larger shots, but they should've accounted for all shots posted before the launch. For those older than that date/time, they could get scaled down at half size, like they've been up until this point. That way they don't get pixelated! Or, just scale everything at half size period.
Another downfall is the bigger shots are going to change what gets posted on Dribbble. Bigger shots = more detail = less WIP shots.
Let's be honest, do we still use Dribbble for WIP shots?
Many people do, but they don't often end up on the Popular page. A lot of the WIP aren't super rough, but are the beginning stages of a project and some details aren't as thought through. I have in the past (granted I don't post very often), but this definitely makes me more hesitant to do so.
dribbble is for showoff, self-marketing and finding inspiration. that's it. a platform where designers can share their WIP was a nice dream 8 years ago, but it's not dribbble.
That's your opinion. That doesn't make it the rule. Dribbble "shots" are intended to be smaller snapshots of a project. That plays much better with WIP type shots then polished, finished pieces. While a lot of the work on Dribbble doesn't feel like "WIP" work, the majority of it is—that's just because it's full of talented designers. You'll see several iterations of the same thing (ie WIP). Plus, I'm fairly certain that was the intention of Dribbble, regardless of what you think.
That may have been the intention of dribbble but there is no way in hell that that is what it's known for now. Dribbble is to Behance as insta is to facebook. Same thing without all the bloat.
This wasn't a question of what it is known for, for the record. I never refuted that!
Yeah but nah. You're saying the majority of the work on Dribbble is WIP when it just isn't.
Still annoys me that I have to click everytime to zoom in... whould be cool if it could remember my action and display form the start zoomed in shots.
EDIT: I just realised that this only applies to old shots...
I highly disagree with the placement of the Like/Save(Bucket) actions. The human eye (in America) scans left-to-right, and then top-to-bottom. In this case.. my eye looks at the image, and my next inclination is to continue to 'look down' the page.. and there.. they prioritized their social sharing over the main actions a power user would be doing.
P.S. Don't even get me started on what this does to 'image' quality across the entire site.
And the file size limit now is 10 MB
I’m suprised no one is talking about Gifs, have they gotten rid of it yet? Seriously Gif needs to die!
Kinda want to delete my entire Dribbble portfolio now and reupload with better resolutions. Everything looks bad now. It's fine for the people in the community that understands, but the potential clients that I have flow through there are going to get a terrible impression—especially compared to others with new shiny images.
A much needed improvement. Aside from the support for higher res images, I also like the attention they have given to the "Save" (buckets) and even "Like" actions, might actually use Buckets more now. I also appreciate the new "Share on Pinterest" button. I collect design work on Pinterest, so this is a great improvement for mine and likely many other peoples' workflows.
I think the Pinterest option was already there, but it was under "Share" which had an option for Twitter too (that's gone now). To me, the bright red button is a little over-pronounced. It kinda dominates the card once you've scrolled it into view.
Agree that it was definitely overwhelming and drew a lot of attention. Happy to see them fix it so quickly.
RE my comment, they've modified the Pinterest button now—it's not longer solid red!
Had loads of dribble tabs open from a few hours ago. Before realising the UI had just updated, I had this comedy moment I thought I just broke dribbble. :P
Great updates, forgot about buckets... or 'saves' Already using them loads more!
Yep, I noticed this morning as well. Thought I was tripping out. But, I'm really happy with the changes. Definitely makes the designs "pop" out a lot more.
