A social platform for people with a collecting passion (your feedback needed)

almost 5 years ago from

I'd like to share with you our product, which is still in an early stage - Ownetic - a social platform for people with a collecting passion.

https://ownetic.com/

I'm sharing this with you for 2 reasons:

1) I'm curious of your feedback on the user experience and your initial thoughts after seeing our landing page (1.0 - it will be developed, but any a feedback would be much welcomed). The platform is invite-only - what are your thoughts on this. Is it attractive, does it make you feel interested in the product?

2) if you collect something - anything from stamps to Star Wars merchandise - you're invited to join in and become an early adopter. It's also dedicated to creators of artwork. I'm sure we have plenty of talented people here - Ownetic is something you might like to check out.

Waiting to hear your thoughts!

I closed it immediately after I saw I need to create an account first.

Marek, thanks for the feedback and for giving it a try. Can you elaborate, why is this discouraging? Usually, to get in, you need to sign up = create an account :-) Please consider it's an early stage, so it's not the time for us to go fully open yet.

I have to agree with Marek. It's really giving me no reason why I should sign up. What's the benefit to me? It's not so much discouraging, rather it's just not engaging. Signing up is a common process, but if it's not clear what I'm signing up for and how it can improve my life as a collector then why should I bother. Apologies if that seems overly critical.

It's all right, thanks Jamie for spending the time to give it a thought :-) we're not having a fully developed landing page with all the benefits simply because we haven't had a chance to create it yet :-) We've focused on creating a good experience for the early users and on rolling out the necessary features. Marketing comes next, that is - now, hence the question :-)

Thanks, we'll develop the landing page and surely include all the benefits of joining Ownetic - then, I'll come back for more feedback!

We have managed to create the about.ownetic page located in the footer.

Full landing page - next on the list :-)

I agree, I wanted to explore, see some content, understand what you can do, before I commit to anything. So I also dropped out immediately.

Think of the value exchange between you and your users, and give them a little taste of that value before asking them to sign up.

        Come on now.

"HI! Our name is Ownetic and you can be the first to find out what we do if you give me your email address!"

... so you want me to invest into something without being able to know what it is, what it does, why it's better than other places, without trying, etc?

        Yeah nah.

I left straight away. You're asking me for my email in order to find out more about a product I know nothing about. I have no idea what I'll be getting in exchange for my information.

Also not sure why each footer link opens up separate tabs? You're sending me away from your site :(

Maggie, thanks for the invite :) Here is some random feedback while navigating on the website once logged in:

    • I felt a bit confused at first, I did not know what to do or what was expected from me. I was actually expecting to see collections instead of individual items at first.

    • Following users does not seem to change my feed? I was expecting a instagram/behance sort of behaviour: once I follow people I only get their posts. Exploring other collector's posts would be in a separate tab or smthg then.

    • It took me a bit of time to understand the icons on the left. Could be nice to add a label below the icons.

    • It also took me a while to notice the filter button, which is only available for the item feed? why not for the collection feed? :(

    • The category filters list lacks contrast, the labels are quite hard to read.

    • Some categories do not have any item to display. Why feature those empty category in the first place ?

    • On the item page, why can't I click on the collection name to access the whole collection? This should be a link. Same goes for Category and Subcategory.

    • I did not notice any comment or messaging feature, why can't I connect with other hobbyists ? Wouldn't that be the purpose of such platform?

As a global remark, it would be nice to notice at first glance what feature does especially target collectors. This feature should be the most prominent button or CTA at first login so I know what to do next. Otherwise, the website looks great and promising, but the main use cases need to be more explicit to new users :)

    Best of luck, Val

    Hi Maggie,

Did not have a chance to explore the whole site (I requested an invite). Regarding the LP: You should indeed give us at least more info since from what we see in the background, it looks like we will have quite some work to do (uploading photos of our collections, naming, describing things etc.)

The secondary pages (about, contact...) look great, I dig the look & feel of the website. However the custom scrollbar made me a bit mad since I could not click & hold it to scroll. This could be an issue for other users as well.

    Best of luck!

I have waited a while with this response, but I believe we're ready now!

Thank you Valentin for this awesome feedback. We've analysed it with the team (we really love to receive such insightful comments on our work) and decided to make informative landing page our a top priority. It seems it's the thing most needed and desired. It's live now! See here: https://ownetic.com/

When it comes to other points in your feedback

      • Design and icons: while working hard on implementing new landing page, our devteam found the time to implement some minor, though important design improvements to make Ownetic look more sleek. We have also improved the icons on the left. Have you noticed?

      • Now you can click on the collection name to access the whole collection!

We're working hard to improve/implement the rest of the features uoi mentioned (in particular: categories/filters). All your suggestions are very to the point, also regarding the lack of social features, which are on our roadmap (very high), but are waiting for other topics to be closed.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback, Valentin!

Same here, I just ran when saw the form. Life is too short for that.

To get folks excited about a new platform, you should let them explore a bit - Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram - even Facebook to some extent all let you explore the platform and any posts that are not restricted by individual privacy settings.
