I love Brand New by Under Consideration!
I check these three before Dribbble or anything else... Dribbble has gotten to bloated with trendy design and stuff not actually in production
I agree about this bloat. Great links.
Thanks for mentioning the UIJar.com mate! It is great to hear you are enjoying the content :)
Yeah of course, look for a few submissions in the next few months. I'm about to upload the past year of my work and its all production :)
Can't wait to see them! :)
just noticed your new design review feature coming, really looking forward to that !!
yes, I'm releasing new features as I learn how to code them :D
Btw in that Design Review section, there will NOT be 800x600 size limitation nor the approval process by me. All posts will go live to get proper feedback.
That's so key! I always feel super restricted with Dribbbles sizing. Keep up the good work!
Dribbble has always been like this. I think it's actually gotten better compared to 8 years ago. All you would see then is buttons and icons with layers upon layers of effects applied and nothing really useful.
i use the Muzli chrome extension. In there i have all the stuff i need. Including Designernews. I use it an awful lot. Everything together in one place. Love it.
+1 for muzli chrome extension
→ UIJar.com Handpicked design inspiration for your real life projects
By far my favourite two typography-in-use-and-inspiration-resources are:
Apart from the obvious design communities, here is my list:
FWA Great for micro sites and innovative ideas - a few legendary design agencies owe them selves to this site.
Site Inspire If you'er looking for "hip" design inspiration.
Designspiration This has been my replacement for ffffound.
Abduzeedo This is pretty much an all rounder for inspiration in design.
Fubiz All rounder again for inspiration in design - their content is usually top quality.
Benbentobox Great little tumblr feed based on colour themes for imagery - nice for colour inspiration.
Y Combinator Good if you want to keep one's ear to the ground on the start up industry in general.
Producthunt Use this to stay up to date with the latest tools and start ups.
I built my own lately; DSGN.LINK — It's a place where I collect nice things around.
It depends of what I am looking for (and what design related means). Most of the answers below show UI or Branding websites. When I want to revamp my Interaction Design criteria I normally visit:
Following the right people on LinkedIn is helpful as well.
I am surprised about Smashing. I haven't seen a trending article from them for a very very long time.
Does anybody know of a site or community dedicated to design using web techniologies?
Meaning a community where people talk about leveraging CSS, HTML, SVG and related tech to create good design?
I know there are a lot of showcase sites, but I'm looking for more of a how-to and techniques discussion.
Also there are plenty of web dev discussion, but these are dominated by questions like "Should I learn React or Vue?" which is really not what I'm interested in.
Codrops and Codepen are close I suppose.
Thanks.
This is actually a good idea for a new site. First showcasing designs, after clicking into the design, an article discussing the implementation: the tech stack, tips and tricks etc.
Spectrum has an active frontend community that has a lot of these conversations. https://spectrum.chat/frontend.
There also a lot helpful folks on twitter like https://mobile.twitter.com/anatudor and https://mobile.twitter.com/wesbos
Hrm, the first few convos on spectrum when I loaded it include: - something about creating a python environment - something about creating JS object with keys or whatever - "show us your desktop"
So yeah I'm still looking, but thanks.
