I haven't even realized the button disappeared. I've been always using the right click.
Ted McDonald, over 5 years ago Doing that opens the image at the thumbnail resolution. So it's not quite the same thing.
You need to click the image first to open the larger version underneath - I thought that was a given.
Obviously you will get a thumbnail if you try and open google's thumbnail in a new tab!
Ted McDonald, over 5 years ago Clicking the image first still shows it a lower resolution. For example, if an image is actually 4k resolution at the hosted site, Google might only show it at like 720px width when you click the thumbnail.
When you right click to open in new tab, you will get the 720px size, not the original 4k size. Hope that makes more sense.

Ted McDonald, over 5 years ago Yes, for that image it works. But the behavior is not consistent. Sometimes opening image in new tab does not open full resolution, and sometimes it takes you to the website instead of the image url.

Good point, and from that point of view it's not the best user experience... Google should know better.
I thought I'd do it but someone did this already :)
Now, the only thing I'd need is a Safari extension...

I noticed that yesterday. Absolutely infuriating. I probably used that feature 20+ times per week.
The inconsistencies between the google app and web image searches were aggravating enough, this absolutely takes the cake though.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed!

Calm down! just right click > Copy image || right click > Copy Image Location, it takes like 0.5 seconds longer...

You CAN just save the preview image in Google Search results, right? I've always done that. Never really cared about the "View image" button.

Funny how they say they want you to go to the publisher's page to see the image yet Google steals content from pages to display at the top of their results. Like when you see the block of text or answer without even visiting a page.

How about Google work on improving their search engine. Far too many paid ad spots at the top of the search results and when I look for technical information about how to fix a current problem I get articles from a decade ago telling me about software that no longer has the features or UI I a currently using. Let's also start calling Google what it is, an ad company that also does other things to lure users into giving away their personal information that can be sold to advertisers.
