Convert PDF to layered PSD

5 years ago from , Programmer

Hi guys, my name is Ivan and I am the author of a free image editor Photopea :) It works in a browser, opens Sketch, PSD, and converts Sketch to PSD.

Sometimes, you may want to edit a PDF file, or copy some graphics out of it. Adobe Photoshop can not do it (it would rasterize it) and Illustrator may seem too complex. With Photopea, you can open PDF and save it as PSD.

PDF pages become artboards, vector shapes become vector layers, text becomes text layers and raster graphics becomes Smart Objects.

It is all possible thanks to the open-source library PDFI.js, which I also created. I thought it may be useful for you one day, so I am putting it here :)

This is amazing!! Excellent work. Thanks for making this

EDIT: I just used the 'Vectorize Bitmap' and then 'Get SVG' function on several bitmap files to turn them into vector files, which I have tried on Adobe Illustrator's Image Trace but that tool failed to leave any of the bitmap files keep their transparent background ... your tool succeeded in keeping the transparent background after they turned into vectors!! It's magic!

EDIT2: To users, remember to 'Vectorize Bitmap' the image first so the image is a set of paths before you 'Get SVG' so the output file contains the lines and co-ordinates instead of the bitmap image being encoded in base64

Holy shit! I've seen a few of these convert PDF to PSD's in my time and they are all naff. This is actually impressive! Agree with Marcel on the UI - but I'd be careful, you never know if Adobe have somehow copyrighted the icons and general layout?

Even this comment sounds like spam it's that good!

Ivan - small bug I noticed in latest Chrome on latest OS High Sierra Mac: If you use 'cmd' + '-' to zoom out, keep hold of 'cmd' the do 'cmd' + '+' to zoom in, it will continue to zoom out.

In fact, this is a fairly common task for different people, including students like me. Therefore, it is important for me to find a convenient and free tool for working with PDF, since I have a rather limited budget. I use site https://www.pdfplatform.com/ and I like that it has all the features I need.

I think that converting PDF to various formats and vice versa is a fairly common task for people who work with documents.

Wow really cool. I was looking for something like this recently to convert PDFs, PSDs, InDesign or Sketch files to HTML. This is a great web service that could be a huge benefit to the web dev community.
