If Andu Potorac thinks designers should never code, he's in for a very rude shock in the coming years.

I think being cross disciplinary only adds more power to your thinking. Albert Einstein once said he 'thinks in music' (and is a violinist), so why can't designer think with code in mind and why can't engineer think with design in mind?

I have to agree with Liam Wheaton below, this is very click-baity. And the companies that you linked at the bottom of your article don't really state that 'we are ABSOLUTELY NOT looking for designers who code.' In fact, in Airbnb's job post, they ask that the candidate should know Framer -- which is pretty much coding.

They don't ask for designers who code, that's the idea. To solve big problems a designer doesn't need to learn how to code. It's not necessary in the process of solving design problems.
