Share mockups, export assets & copy CSS

Hiya DN! We’re super excited to introduce Framer Export—a brand new set of features built to support every point of the design cycle. From work-in-progress mockups to accurate CSS values to polished final assets for clients, now you can share more than just high-fidelity prototypes with Framer. We’d love to hear your thoughts.

We support a variety of workflows. I’m particularly excited about these:

    • Export Canvas — quickly share entire product flows.
    • iOS & Android Presets — design mobile production assets.
    • CMD+C — copy to paste in any app to share mocks.
    • Copy CSS — design UI elements in Framer, and use on web.
    • ... and so much more.

Framer design is becoming a great standalone design tool except... it's integrated with a full fidelity prototyping tool.

We think that's where design tools are heading, and we're getting closer with each release. Enjoy and let us know what you think.

@koen, have you ever considered writing an article about your process for quickly building and shipping such well thought-through work? It's amazing how quickly your team can launch enhancements.

they do it by not wasting time on writing articles. Leave them alone writing code ;-)

Thanks Chris! We might write about this in the future. But like Gael mentions: focus on product is a big part of it.

Now that we can export CSS, when can we expect to export attributes in other languages such as Swift or Objective-C?

This is super rad. exciting to see how this tool has evolved in just under a year since i bought it.

when does this come out. i just looked for an update and I dont see the ability to export artboards or assets.

next release, can you please add a line tool, and a pen tool. framer shouldnt be restricted to just boxes and circles!

Thanks Benjamin - always love to see that version number go up.

Looking forward to having more visual effects parity with Sketch. Do you ever feel like Framer is held back by relying on web technology?

Hey Brent, what’s your top 3 of visual effects that you miss in Framer Design today?

        1. Multiple fills with independent blending
        2. Fills for text layers
        3. Blending at layer level (Color burn was what I needed)

Two other requests that are top of mind - (1) better support for adding effects to SVGs (one issue is that fills apply to the SVG bounding box, rather than the shape itself) and (2) letting shapes have sub-pixel dimensions.

Not sure if these are things other users run into, but I definitely run into the sub-pixel thing quite a bit, especially for shadows and dividers.

No problem! Thanks for taking the feedback. Also one more request that's in the usability category - being able to collapse child layers into a parent layer in the layer hierarchy list. That list gets pretty long with a complicated document.

Too cumbersome to use, too focused on mobile.

      Did you try?

Yes I did, how will I know otherwise ?

You wouldn’t be the first person on the internet to draw an uninformed conclusion ;-) Jokes aside, I’m curious to learn more about your experience. I’m one of the makers of Framer and like hearing feedback.

I live in Amsterdam and I’ve already been to one of your hands on sessions so yeah I’ve given it a fair shot.

As a designer, I don’t want to touch a line of code if I don’t want to, especially when the code generated by Framer cannot be used in production. Otherwise why should I bother ? I can easily make any interaction I can think of in Aftereffects.

I’d like a tool which allows me to do everything visually, the coding part can still remain for those who prefer. Much like in Aftereffects where everything can be done through visual tools or with expressions.

Have you tried Facebook's Origami? It's a prototyping tool that uses a visual programming interface called "patches" to handle all the stuff you'd normally do with code.

It's still hard to learn. I would love more ideas from Bret Viktor found their way into Framer

I’m assuming you mean the coding aspect of Framer: yep, that has a learning curve. Its worth it though, if you ask me. Have you tried the design tab to get started?

Yes the code part. I have not tried the design tab yet. I couldn't use the trial and keep the version I have it seems.

And I have not renewed my license because in the year I had Framer I couldn't produce anything useful. Partly because the deadlines didn't allow me to learn and complete what I had set to do, and partly because of the lack of projects that warranted using it.
