Interesting that they didn't choose to increase the storage options on their Professional plan. Not much of an incentive to upgrade from the Plus plan.
bad pricing is bad
Out of curiosity; what exactly is bad about the pricing?
the new professional plan is expensive compared to its competitors, and doesn't increase my storage limit any from plus. while it does come with some extra features that are nice, literally doubling my price seems a bit much.
as a longtime plus user, it's also just kind of frustrating that new features are never rolled out to that plan.
Cheers for elaborating. Made me learn a thing or two :]
Appreciated.
I find it downright ridiculous, that Smart Sync is only available in the massively overpriced top tier plan. I'm already using it in a corporate environment and really like it, because in this environment it solves a huge pain point of Dropbox. However, this feels like something that should have existed from the start, like an integral part of the whole syncing experience. To some extent it only solves a problem, that was created by using Dropbox in the first place.
Restricting this to the overpriced Pro plan and leaving current subscribers in the dust is a real blow to their faces.
+1
It's really not worth double is it! Also a long time user and been on the 'plus - with extended version history' plan (previously pro) for years.
Especially considering that you can create a portfolio directly from your Dropbox anyway...
I'm running out of reasons to stick with Dropbox.
They killed off the reason I bought storage space from them (Carousel) and Google Photos is now far better actually importing from Photos and grabbing the original photo from iCloud even if "optimize local storage" setting is on. Dropbox just dropped it.
Their UI is generally better than Google Drive in my opinion, but not enough to warrant picking it over Google Drive.
Their new branding doesn't speak to me at all. Features like this aren't useful to me.
Why should I stick with Dropbox over Google Drive?
And this is exactly why I jumped ship a few months ago. Using Drive and Photos now but also getting my NAS up and running so will downgrade my Drive to a free account next year.
This looks like an awesome feature for quickly making little showcases of work. Password protection and expiring links are a built-in option.
In itself, this seems like a very cool product. Since people in creative fields need to host their files somewhere, why not give them a way to create an interactive presentation experience out of their work?
However, I feel like there's a larger question at play––what is Dropbox as a company? What is their north star? What is their elevator pitch? Are they trying to become a workflow tool (a la Dropbox Paper)? Are they trying to become a portfolio website product (a la Dropbox Showcase)?
Unless the market for making tools for people in creative fields is much larger than I imagined, this seems like an oddly narrow niche for Dropbox.
