Yes. Facebook messenger always has a little red dot telling me that notifications are off. Yes, you are correct, that is my preference so stop telling me to action something I don't want to.
One of many examples, from LinkedIn to every single hotel / holiday site. It preys on a sense of being left out and urgency, two human traits that marketeers and sales people have been taking advantage of since the inception of advertising.
I prefer LinkedIn placing ad cards in my feed to self promote then alerting me. I get it, You need to up-sale features, but It feels spammy when you treating it as an alert. Almost feel next it will say "See who's gonna to quite your company! The last one will shock up. Upgrade to see who"
