I love the concept! Not a fan on desktop (I still believe in multitasking) but on mobile it's a game changer. Thanks for sharing!
I think Apple has done a MUCH better job than you at making the flat design system work. iOS7 was a mess for sure but it laid a foundation for what was to come; the slate had to be wiped clean before the canvas could be painted. I'd much rather see focus on functionality (I'm looking at you Finder and Apple Mail) then just tweaking the visual eye candy of the OS,m which, IMHO, at this point (iOS11 and MacOS High Sierra) are doing just fine.
I love the idea and I think it has potential for some apps or products. However, there's something I don't like about it: apple products usually have high quality displays, built to show the colors in a vivid yet natural way. By implementing the "ambience" layer I think the colors would become faded and it just feels like the software is not using the full capabilities of the display.
It's a nice theory, but in practice It's not giving me the intended effect.
Maybe because we're only used to seeing this atmosphere layer over very large distances.
Very similar in idea to the "trailfocus" Compiz plugin for Linux, which I love!
Very cool concept! Is this slightly similar to the gradient effect in iMessages on the chat bubbles?
