iMac Pro (apple.com)

I do remember a time that I was inspired by their web design, but those days are clearly over.
I was legitimately surprised…thought a CSS file wasn't loading or something.
80px list items. WOWZERS
I actually like the almost banal feel of the large text. But, Apple's brand seems to be more and more all over the place...
I'm so feed up of Parallax shit. Can't they just go with normal scrolling?
what don't you dig?
I'll try to put it this way: I think there's a quality of creativity/magic/imagination completely missing, which seems at odds with a premium product that is supposed to fuel these kinds of concepts. I also think San Francisco as a typeface feels really forced here.
That makes sense. Are there existing pages on apple that do what you expect? I'm curious what you're expecting.
I think I'm biased towards some of the things they were doing in the late 2000s, which seemed more clever in using grids, careful typography, and iconography. They felt very "print-like." In terms of current designs, I think the tvOS page and a few other Apple TV pages are vastly better than the newer stuff as well. Thanks for asking, by the way.
Think the newer stuff is better tbh, the old style now looks like almost every startup product page it's become so formulaic.
Nice they're trying something a bit less pedestrian.
This thing looks seriously powerful... it seems like they're coming back around and addressing the concerns with not focusing on the professional market.
5k resolution 5k starting price
1 dollar per res... hmmm
This is the computer I was asking for years ago when I was a lot more into 3D. I feel like people aren't as excited about external GPU support and Metal 2 as they should be.
Metal 2 will never be supported widely in any useful way.
eGPU is great for a laptop but exclosures cost almost the same as a GPU so you'll be adding over $1K to your setup to take advantage of it. Just seems silly to have one connected to a stationary machine.
I looked into them a shitload (Working with CUDA) but in the end I could get a PC for just a few hundred $s more and then have the opportunity to double up GPUs
Seems to have all the problems of the Mac Pro in a less sustainable package.
iMac Pro also has VESA mounting options after a decade..
Like the concept and attention to specs from apple but I could build a hackintosh for half the starting price! Ho hum
I want those wallpapers in the product shots.
Same here, I really dig the abstract wallpapers
Was I the only one who hoped for a 34" iMac?
so much scrolling.
I won't be getting an iMac Pro but I'll definitely be buying a space gray mouse and keyboard.
Good luck, they arent selling them separately.
So if someone needs to replace the keyboard or mouse for their $5000 computer, they're SOL? That's crazy.
BOLD is the new Regular
This thing is genius from a sales standpoint. They are gonna sell a ton of these to people because they THINK they need all the powers.... but use a mere fraction of it IRL.
They are gonna sell a ton of these to people who are rich enough to spend a $3K premium for a slightly darker shade of grey
Website styling wise, I'm not feeling the body font.
Looks expensive. Have they announced a price range for this?
I think they said it's somewhere between "one kidney" and "second mortgage on your house".
They cover the price in the announcement. I think it's around $4,000?
Starts at $5000
From The Verge https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/5/15722994/apple-wwdc-2017-news-highlights-recap
"The new iMac starts at $1,099 for the 21.5-inch model, and $1,299 for the 4K model. MacBooks will get upgraded, too; the MacBook Pro starting at $1,299, which includes the updated Kaby Lake processor. The iMac Pro starts at $4,999, and ships in December."
This will be awesome for opening Atom editor really fast!
Might actually open it slower than a normal iMac, depends on the clock speed. Generally mass core processors have lower clock speeds.
Just a hunch but I'm going to assume Atom just chugs away on a single core when loading
In this case a 2.35 18 core Xeon ($3500) is going to open Atom slower than a 4 core 4ghz i7 ($326).
However if you were doing the true pro work these processors are intended for: Rendering, simulation, data processing etc. Then the 18 core will be ridiculous.
Someone know if it's upgradable?
Apparently not. Not even the RAM. BUT that may change in the 6 months before release.
I like your optimism :)
I really hope so :(
I really like it. I am wondering the final price this thing will be with the extra 2 5K and the graphic card towers.
So much copy!
They just put even better hardware in their existing body. I feel like it takes Apple 2-3 product cycles for an innovation..
Interestingly enough, had they just done that with the new Macbook Pros, I probably would have bought one.
Same. My wife has a 13" with touch bar and it is absolutely terrible. The battery drains in a couple of hours, the touchbar either gets pressed accidentally or freezes, simple programs freeze over and over (calculator ffs) They are terrible.
2015 MBP is still a thing of beauty. Love how it only has the product name on the underside.
Just bought one on the refurb site. Price came down too :)
at 7,999 USD only Shipping starts in December 2020
Just laying out some dream specs
