What to Listen While Designing ?

I feel like there's a need to refresh this question. So, what are you listening to while working/designing. Share with me/us.

Savage! I love it!

I've been listening to these 24/7 live streamed youtube videos lately
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TabMg56daZ0
All of these are sick. Thanks for this.
Same as me
I've been using Noizio for a while. It allows you to mix different sounds like a thunderstorm, coffee house, campfire, sea waves, river stream, etc. into one sound. Super relaxing.
Now, shameless self-plug: if you want to listen to designers talking in Spanish in the background, you can listen to our podcast Diseño Cha Cha Cha.
Yes! Deep space, Blue whales and Coffee house for a really bad trip
Oooh, and add some wind chimes to make it creepy!
OK. Going to stop now. The voices are talking to me again. Ngggg
The podcast is pretty good! Buena suerte!
Gracias, Berenice <3
I switch most days, but a few favourites...
When I need to focus:
When my work is mindless ( pure UI / Visual ):
There are more, but those are usually pretty decent depending on my mood at the time.
Dig the P O O L S I D E list, good share :)
Good share mate, I love The Social Network OST now.
Depends on what I'm doing. I have two music "moods": Thinking and Getting Shit Done.
My Thinking playlist has stuff like Tycho, Gramatik, and RJD2, while my Getting Shit Done playlist hosts the likes of Alexisonfire, Brand New, Every Time I Die, etc.
That 2009 post-emo lyfe
+1 for RJD2 and pretty much anything Trip Hop.
we are the same person
Are you me?
Get out of my minnnnnddd, although not so much the Alexis and ETID these days!
You might also like Grizmatik and Ratatat.
Limp Bizkit
KEEP ON ROLLIN BABYYYY
I always listen to this playlist by 2 Brazilian DJs: https://open.spotify.com/user/12172556067/playlist/1x3Jwh5uNqL8jBIymf0dGk
Perfect songs. I made my best works listening this guys.
Awesome playlist man, thanks for sharing.
Awesome vibes.
S I M P S O N W A V E It's an actual thing and it's awesome.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor- Dead Flag Blues
Acid techno.
Full disclosure, I'm friends with this band.
BUT it's amazing instrumental stuff that you could imagine being in movie trailers. I always get distracted with music with lyrics so instrumental and post rock does it for me in that regard.
The magic formula is something like that:
I use "smarter playlists" tool from Spotify's Paul Lamere to generate it.
No EDM/DJ/indie-electronic crap ever. Hardcore and pop punk always. 90s radio jams. Same thing I'd listen to regardless, basically.
Let's be friends. Top 5 Hardcore albums?
Sounds great. Very good but tough question. "We're Unstoppable" by Blacklisted might be all time #1. BANE - it all comes down to this, guns up! - outlive, and american nightmare - background music...but honestly, i don't even know that this is a definitive list. There are way too many core albums out there that mean so much to me it's hard to choose. What about you?
Yeah, it's a real tough one. There's some albums that have a huge place in my heart, but I'm not sure I need to listen to them again that many times, just the occasional blast. For me that's Champion - Promises Kept, Have Heart - STSATS, BANE - it all comes down to this, and probably a few youth crew classics from Ten Yard Fight et. al. Joint #1 for me is In My Eyes - The Difference Between and In My Eyes - Nothing to Hide. For me, those can't be beaten.
You listening to any recent releases? I'm really digging Fury - Paramount, got that energy I love in Have Heart. On that note, the new FREE releases are pretty cool, but sometimes I feel like hearing Pat Flynn's voice again on new releases that aren't Have Heart is a weird feeling. Definitely cool to see them releasing new stuff.

I discover this YouTube channel recently https://www.youtube.com/user/Chillhopdotcom
It's pretty cool.
Any "Chillstep" or laid back Hip Hop beats
Pretty much anything with Trent Reznor with or without Atticus Ross
I also found that things like podcasts really messed with my productivity so I tend to stay away from those when I'm really pushing.
I listen to Soulection all the time - soundcloud.com/soulection/
Yeah me too, also can highy recommend DJ Complexion and his Future Beats Show https://soundcloud.com/complexion
This guys are amazing. https://soundcloud.com/magic_flowers/tracks
I listen to music to stay focused, in rhythm and isolate the surrounding noise. I like electronic music and different flavours of house and techno work best for me in the office.
Mixed music like podcasts or series such as Fabric, DJ-KIcks, Balance work best since there's a continuous ~70-minute flow without interruptions.
Most of other music distracts me with having too much lyrics, being too expressive, slow or disruptive.
I quite like future bass / garage, stuff like this https://open.spotify.com/user/125565295/playlist/4kvyHLCGy9LtWuxsrOHR1S
My Techno Playlist <3 Enjoy!
Metal!! I've been enjoying Mexican Werewolf lately. :p... you're welcome...
they cry's my wife makes when using horrible software. That and podcasts, like Keith and the girl, and Last podcast on the left.
Current heavy rotation:
Tycho, Bonobo, Moderat. Seems like that music was made for designing. It doesn't hurt that Tycho is a veteran designer.
Usually a mix of either podcasts, non-distracting TV serials in the background, or if I really need thinking space, I go for a mix of lo-fi instrumental and ambient stuff. Two playlists of favs:
https://open.spotify.com/user/1211777784/playlist/2QSgqb4t2SuwnJlqVKobnf
https://open.spotify.com/user/1211777784/playlist/5llSS3Z1wmHhPQTNLNv3HO
And a plug for noisli.com. :)
A series of mixes intended for listening while '+task+' to aid concentration and increase productivity (also compatible with other activities).
Chopin nocturnes. I recommend Rubinstein.
Big on livetronica-esque stuff while working. EG: Electronic music played by live instruments.
Favorite albums to work to are these two:
STS9 - Axe the Cables (Normally electric…using acoustics) - 12.29.09 https://open.spotify.com/album/4qhEFaWXyBjSgvrXyIawGy
LOTUS - Nomad - 06.08.2013 https://open.spotify.com/user/ramsey180/playlist/18LyVVRo8cwjgvBCUy3C9g
Been listening to a lot of Honne and Snakehips. I usually find a lot of stuff I like through the Majestic Casual channel on YouTube.
Shocked no one has mentioned Designers.mx yet.
Comedy Bang Bang, the podcast, and others on http://howl.fm/
Brain.fm is awesome. From the landing page:
The most advanced AI music composer on the planet Invented to have the brain of a neuroscientist and the heart of a musician. Our AI (or extended human intelligence) creates all the music in brain.fm.
Metal. Lots of it.
I have an ongoing playlist on Spotify.

I listen to brown noise, helps me stay focused. I recently noticed that while listening to music I still use a part of attention to check the song, so switching to noise eliminates this, also eliminates all the noise from office. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9ZADvPr98w
Most of the time, punkrock help me to stay focused and energetic
http://johannesippen.com/2017/playlist/
I actually wrote a piece about this. tl;dr: I create a playlist for every product I work on
Mostly chillstep or vocal trance when having to stay focused for longer hours. When something has to be done quickly i turn up to Meek Mill
I have an ever-growing playlist I love for working – solid mix of 'beast mode' type stuff and more chill, thinking music.

Albums I cannot recommend enough for focus and creating a great mental state for work...
Huerco S' most recent full length
ActressR.I.P.
This collaborative album from Laurel Halo, Daniel Lopatin and couple other ambient/vapour heavies
Sigma Flare I and Sigma Flare II from Chambers, an amazing duo from Vancouver
The new album from Shed – The Final Experiment – is percussive and tough, but extremely easy to sink into
I feel like it's worth noting that I am not a designer, but this stuff helps me focus.
If you need to focus for a few hours straight, I'd recommend this 8 hour mix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk26FUe38y0
I also love this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APmBT96ETJk
And, for that cafe feel: https://coffitivity.com/
Do Make Say Think just released a new album, check it out! However, at the moment, I find myself going back to Dance Gavin Dance to get things done.
I watch Adobe CC streamings or Skool videos <3 and if need concentration > Ludovico Einaudi or Emancipator :3
I always channel my inner 15-yo-emo with some Paramore, Dashboard Confessionals, Sum 41, Papa Roach, et al.
Yagya Sleepygirls – 100% gets me in the focus zone every time – to the point that I'm not even thinking about listening to music. Perfect.
https://open.spotify.com/user/abr_80/playlist/6sUGqgfQvnJi53WfggDhMt
I have a "Focus Beats" playlist with lots of Tycho, Bonobos, Hidden Orchestra, etc. https://open.spotify.com/user/dansullivan/playlist/7gb9HjiZcZRiS6n2BBvxwu
I have created a playlist of my most favorite songs. In work time, i plays this list and feels rock.
I'm (finally) about to launch a site with ten playlists for this exact purpose. For now, here's a sample: https://soundcloud.com/burr_oughs/sets/dignansdreams
I make monthly playlist if you want. Cheers ! https://open.spotify.com/user/11156949245/playlist/4diWQoI7j3nJMNHhjHGEeO
I choose music that keeps me focused. It has to be at least an hour in length to keep me in the groove and not have distracting lyrics. Try out space ambient it's very calming and focuses you.
Although I see the point of listening repetitive music while working (EDM, trance etc) repetition gets boring easily, so I constantly seek music that has the potential to throw me off, do something unexpected.
Colin Stetson's new album is pretty dope, especially when you know he's making all those sounds with only a saxophone. https://open.spotify.com/album/4QU8E80wtJiQkh4ovEHEmQ
If you're into unpredictable rhythmic patterns and sounds you probably haven't heard before, check out this album by Second Woman: https://open.spotify.com/album/1Wf81png3egUsAu61hn0v5
If you like instrumental music, Warm Focus from Patrick Ewing is amazing. He’s not creating any more shows but he has a very good Spotify playlist here.
I would say music :D
My spotify weekly was really good this week,
