I know I'm going to be the outlier here but I don't understand why people on DN and Dribbble fawn over everything Stripe does.
All I see is a generic landing page with way too much copy, a lack of visual contrast and poor typographic hierarchy. I guess because pastel gradients?
I do appreciate that they don't use full-bleed cheesy lifestyle photos, but I still come away from this page struggling to understand their value proposition. This article does a much better job communicating the selling points than they do on their own landing page: https://venturebeat.com/2017/05/25/stripe-opens-express-sign-ups-for-connect-marketplaces/
You're not alone in your thinking.
I'll polarize with you. Also to note that Dribbble is just a spec in the design world.
Content strategy / copywriting issue? I agree halfway. They should be much more concise and bold with their verbage.
Copy aside, this layout and design are fine-tuned. The design conveys professionalism and trust on another level. Calling it generic is certainly an outlier position.
Still, TLDR.
...a lack of visual contrast and poor typographic hierarchy
What? I disagree. Break these down. Where's the poor typographic hierarchy?
God damnit, Stripe.
Very fresh and informative. I would love to know what tools they use at Stripe to make those animations with 3D transforms etc. Surely they are not hand coded.
I'd bet they are. The Stripe people strike me as the type that would want to control every last detail of the animation.
They are indeed hand coded!
What made you guys go with CSS transforms over canvas? Performance? Just more comfortable with CSS?
It's Benjamin De Cock and his team. He's always been someone I look up to for their attention to detail. His old website had a little metal case that would pop open (all CSS animations) and it was so satisfying.
They use animateplus.
Coming soon to a random trendwhore rip-off merchant near you!
Please, don’t use “-whore” suffix to state something that is bad. It’s offensive and sexist.
Men can be whores too. How is it sexist?
Buzz off, whelp.
That animation for the video popout was supurb
I agree! I love seeing the resurgence of plain old awesome animation techniques! it's so fun!
so pastel
