Hi!
So I have a course that teaches newbie marketers how to build a website then market it, etc.
They just need to learn how to manipulate vectors for the website building section. So let's say they purchase a vector off DepositPhotos. Now, they want to change the color of it.
These are young people who can't necessarily afford Illustrator.
Any alternatives?

Affinity Designer is worth checking out – it has a free trial but you'll have to purchase a license eventually. Been using it for a few weeks and starting to prefer it to Adobe Illustrator for vector work.
+1 for Affinity, it's easily the best and at £50 one off it's a steal.
There's also Inkscape, Paper and a few others. Inkscape takes work to learn and isn't web-focused. Figma may be the best fit in this case. Pretty full list of alternatives here: http://alternativeto.net/software/inkscape/
What I miss the most from AI is pathfinder functions. For example, "divide" option. It divides all the intersections so you can select a specific one.
I checked Sketch, Gravit and Figma but couldn't find anything similar.
If you know a way to produce same output of divide/merge functions, I would love to hear that.
In Sketch you can select objects to divide -> copy -> intersect -> paste -> difference. It's a pain in the ass but in the end it does the same thing Illustrator's divide does.
Not doing the same thing, I think there is a bug,
Gravit Designer is insanely powerful! Has the potential to be a Sketch replacement too.
Gravit is the best you can get for free- although it can't be used to open .ai files, it can open svg/EPS with a few restrictions.
