Invision acquisition in 5...4...3...2...
Please, do it. I'm already paying for InVision (mostly for the Craft plugin). Don't want to pay for yet another subscription-based plugin.
Hey, wanna know a secret?
You can use Craft for free. (And send you subscription money to some charity.)
Not really. I use Craft mostly to update artboards to multiple InVision projects (which require subscription).
InVision should just buy Sketch.
Sketch should by InVision :-)
God no... InVision, where promising design startups go to die.
Tools like this whilst useful for some people, always remind me of this:
Exactly, i still don't get it why people would use this?!
It's the same argument for/against working collaboratively in google docs.
Edit wars (what's happening in the GIF above) can exist with any collaborative document, but it's better for it to happen in a matter of seconds instead of minutes or hours so teams can work to resolve/discuss those issues before other downstream issues compound it.
I work in teams but we never used something like this. We all got our parts/tickets/todos. We had a styleguide and a clear way to go. I would imagine that a collabtool in design is more distracting than helpful. I love like to discuss parts of my work/issues/problems with my college and stakeholders instead of working in the same document. I think it is more time consuming and really distracting/annoying if somebody works in my space. I get it if you want to share a document to have a look on it. Sketch does that with the local sharing functionallity. So here ic can chat with somebody about my issue, but call a college to fix a problem in my doc? No.
Companies are going for Figma's jugular. Yikes.
Aww, we love Figma. We just also love Sketch. More collaboration everywhere!
Why would someone copy Sketch + add collaboration to it as a differentiator assume that's a solid business model? It's not.
I think there's a reason why Apple, Facebook, Uber, you name it - use Sketch and Photoshop only. Probably the other companies didn't figure out that Sketch already won this fight. Even against Adobe.
There's a few other things differentiating Figma from Sketch other than collaboration: Team Libraries and Constraints are amazing features.
Their messaging leaning so heavily on collaboration as a selling point I believe is hurting them because I was initially pretty skeptical about Figma. They've impressed me with the rate at which they are introducing key features and I've almost completely dropped Sketch now.
Just saying: don't write Figma off yet, Sketch is a huge player right now but it took years for Sketch to get to this point. Figma's been available for less than a year.
A good business plan: 1. Do a good product. 2. Build a community around it. 3. Open up the product so that your community makes it even better (apps, plugins, products, etc).
Yea this is exactly why Sketch is doing so well - because it is opening itself to developers and becoming a platform to build off of.
Can someone explain to me why in the hell i need a collab toolwhatsoever to work with somebody else in one document? I never did it and maybe never will.
"SHUT UP AND TELL ME WHEN IT'S READY" LOL
Couldn't help but notice he calculated the line height by multiplying in the Spotlight with 1.6 (good - 1.4 to 1.8) - but he didn't do it in Sketch. You can do it in that field where you type the value directly. ;-)
Amazing tool, goes up in my list near Runner and AutoLayout.
Hey ! Thanks for the tips :)
But please
Whoa. Way too much Vanilla Ice. Fixing that right now!
Glad you're excited about it! And thanks for the feedback.
As for product hunt, we can't add it :*( but if you know anyone with an invite... And here it is! https://www.producthunt.com/posts/picnic-for-sketch
Thanks everyone for the help making that happen!
Tweet me @connor_norvell, Ill send you an invite :)
You da best! Hold plz... We actually just got one. Thank you though!
As long as you made it on there!
Yay! Thank you!
This is neat.
I'd recommend re-shooting the video with the two laptops side by side, and setting a goal of "let's change this design's colours from reds to greens". Or something similar. The minor change you're doing there aren't selling it to non-designers.
What a great product. When's this coming to PhotoShop?
(... italics is sarcasm, right?)
What sorcery is this!?
EDIT: It looks awesome if it works, but I just hope they don't charge too high for a 3rd-party feature. There's already too much subscription services out there... and most of them are just crazy expensive thinking it's reasonable to charge for a (cool) Sketch plugin 1/3 of what Adobe charges for its entire suite of professional apps.
