Are there any alternatives to Pttrns?
Are looking for mobile inspiration only?
Because there's
Thank you, Sir. Btw, Nicely done is indeed very nicely done

I complained a little when the ads were introduced, and you had to disable adblock to stay on the site... But I kept using the site even though it was slightly less convenient.. I went back to the site to look at some inspiration a few days ago, and found this whole 'log in to access full archive' stuff... When I realised I needed to pay a subscription to view app screenshots, I thought it was a joke at first.. Sadly not.
I know Robin does amazing work - but for me personally, Pttrns has lost it. I'm not sure if it's because it all used to be free for so long that I now feel weird about having to pay for it? Or maybe it's that there are actually other options (none are as good as Pttrns was) for viewing app screenshots en masse out there, so I don't feel that it's worth the money..
Here is a list I found in a few minutes of searching:
I'm sure there are others..
You still can see the fullsize screenshots (here's an example).
I guess it that's because you used it for free for so long. I remember Robin posted here on DN that pttrns was really expensive for him, so the subscription model makes sense.
I never had any concern about seeing fullsize screenshots.. I didn't even know that was a thing until seeing your link.
Anyway, I appreciate that Robin needed to monetise somehow due to the cost of the site, but that's not a reason a subscription model would make sense.. To suggest as much is a little naive.
I personally won't subscribe because I can find UI patterns many other ways, without paying a subscription model.. I use Dribbble a lot for this kind of thing, and I pay a subscription to dribbble - because the subscription gives me adequate value (https://dribbble.com/pro).
I'm not trying to shit on Pttrns, I just think that I may not be alone in finding the new direction hard to swallow. I hope it works out for them.
Yes, I totally agree with you. I feel like subscription model doesn't really fit to pttrns but unfortunately ads seems to not generate enough money
Yes, I really agree with your statement. Very disappointing, when I have to pay just for seeing all archives.
By the way, thanks for the list my friend! :)
I use http://uiohmy.com/ as much as I use Pttrns.
Curious, if subscription isn't a good fit, what would be a better business model for Pttrns?
I think the biggest issue is being told to disable adblock. Forbes did that once and people got malware. Maybe sponsored ads would be a better fit? Matt Gruber's Daring Fireball is a good example.
Unfortunately having an opinion on what isn't right doesn't equal knowing what is right.
It would be better to know directly from you if the subscription model is actually working.. Do you have a lower than expected MAU rate since you implemented the subscription model? Are you seeing an increase in bounce rate? I can see that paying the subscription allows people to remove ads.. So are you getting reasonable ad revenue from unsubscribed users? Or do ads only serve the purpose of being a motivator to subscribe now? Is there maybe a value in allowing full archive access to users who are not subscribed so that you can get more ad revenue?
These suggestions may be bland, but without knowing your business the way you do, I can't be expected to have the answers.
A few that I look at are :

And lets see, hopefully pttrns becomes worth with better search, more updates and a better diversity of real-life products.

Out of curiosity, is anyone actually happy to pay the subscription for Pttrns? It's fairly cheap as a tool that helps you with your work and can probably be paid for by your employer if you're working in-house or at an agency.
Not affiliated, just curious.
Good question.
