Westworld UI - A Supercut (vimeo.com)

I like some of the hardware ideas and interactions, but the look of the UI to me is very dated for this kind of work. Reminds me too much of some of the Native Instruments UI which is widely thought of needing an update.
No human would ever want to use these interfaces.
That dialogue tree part was absolutely amazing.
This makes me wonder if UI design will ever enter a phase where the trend is this 'futuristic' look.
That's how we'll know when we're finally in the future :)
It did, it was called "full-flash websites circa 2003", and we all decided to never speak about it again.
It does look very dated. Reminds me of Command & Conquer
The reason they look like this is largely because it's a part of the cinematic language. It communicates 'futuristic'.
That said, technology has followed sci-fi in many other areas, so maybe one day!
Remind of this, again: http://worrydream.com/ABriefRantOnTheFutureOfInteractionDesign/
I always look at these interfaces in movies and think, meh. Who designs these? I know they have to look futuristic, but i would like to see another approach. I like Westworld by the way, great show.
To answer your question: This is the guy who designed the UI for Westworld → http://chriskieffer.com/westworld-fui/
Very nice. Reminds me of GMUNK's work for Obilivion: https://vimeo.com/64377100
Touch areas in some of the UI is waaay too small, even for robots ;)
It always make me remember Ingress, a game developed by Niantic labs. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress&hl=en
I was very impressed by the subtle symbolism of representing "fragmentation" as the maze metaphor.
NIce! I love the show, especially the art direction combined with the soundtrack. It's one of the most cohesive packages (visual + auditory + story) I've ever scene.
It's interesting how the art direction feels very futuristic and clean with the pure white color and blue-ish tones. While the UI direction is more like Tron, with a more bright cyan and some duller reds and quiet busy.
The gestures do look futuristic though, how the device is flexible, and the touch gestures, but the UI feels a bit outdated. And yeah I'm probably over thinking it since it's a fictional show ;)
