What Apple product to buy for design

over 6 years ago from , Digital Designer

Hello everyone,

Where I work, we're in the moment of buying a new Apple product for our design team and I wanted to ask you, which one would fit best in your opinion? An iMac 5k? The new Mac Book Pro?

Personally I vote for an iMac 5k equipped with an i7 and SSD, but maybe I'm not aware of every aspect, like personal experiences (from you guys).

Thank you!

What kind of design work? Web? iOS? Android? Print?

It would depend on the user's requirements. What if they need to work from home? In that case, a laptop with external monitor would be better.

No home work here :). But would be nice to be able to move around with your work horse. Is able a laptop (MacBook) to run smoothly PS? I've seen an iMac with 24GB RAM, and with PS opened and a project with 15 screens, only 3-4 GB left free. And since a laptop has (most of them) 16GB, how it runs fully loaded?

I can run a serious amount of applications on my 16GB Macbook Pro and it works a treat (even if the fan gets a little loud).

That makes me think that maybe either your Photoshop settings aren't quite optimised... or... you're trying to do too much in one document?

More RAM is not always the answer.

EDIT: I've also got two monitors attached to my laptop and still runs ok.
