How is "atomic design" all of a sudden a new and shiny thing? Systems design has been around for a long time. This drives me nuts. It's not new or magic, it's simply good detailed design. It's a particular solution for a particular problem. You as the designer still need to define the problem, design the solution, and ship the work, of which may or may not be "atomic design".
but she's got a new hat
I haven't heard atomic design being mentioned for a while so I glanced over his original post about it and it didn't seem much different from complex branding styleguides that cover a wide array of mediums, which have existed for at least the past 50 years if not longer. If anyone could correct or clarify what exactly makes "atomic design" particularly important or unique that would be great.
Isn't Atomic Design one specific interpretation of systems design though? I haven't read the entire book, but the author doesn't seem to be claiming that he invented the design system; rather, he has a specific methodology for creating them.
Just slightly curious how this didn't become A Book Apart.
Maybe we could get an AMA from Brad Frost.
Insta-buy.
