I actually can’t stand Intercom’s illustrations and find their dominating use to be non-sensical and a major distraction. They literally make no sense, distract from what you are reading and offer no value. They resemble bad wallpaper ripped from a child’s bedroom.

That wad of pointless, illegible, graphic junk in the upper left hand part of the hero illustration is agitating AF, the first thing the eyes see is negativity and confusion, and it just gets worse from there with overbearing illustrations taking over.

Though B2B business products are often marketed as consumer products, I find the children’s book style marketing for business products at this capacity to be distracting, if not insulting.

As someone who is heavily part of the purchase influencing process for my customers, I recommend business products nearly everyday.

Stripe, Dropbox, Plaid, Segment, Invision, Slack, Zeplin, MailChimp, Mixpanel and the list goes on and on. Coincidentally, those happen to be fairly clear, legible offerings and I get little resistance.

We have used Intercom in the past for projects, however at the present time, their product offerings are so illegible to those not in the know (i.e., decision makers with the credit cards) - that most, as in the majority, all, who I send to their site “don’t get it” - and just move on. The wads of pointless graphic junk don't help explain the product.

I haven’t had a customer use Intercom in years now.

Some of the others mentioned, Inturn and Dropbox for example, at least use illustrations with more restraint a semblance of relevance.

Though, it’s not a graphical style I’m drawn to - I find GrooveHQ’s illustrations for their blog posts to be well thought out and lending a nice atmosphere to their stories.
