    I wonder what's the motivation behind doing icons entirely in CSS. Are we being overly "purist" here?

      I doubt many of these CSS-only type projects actually see any real use. I think most of them are just for developers and designers to go "ooh neat" over. And there's nothing with that. That's part of pushing technology forward, just doing things for the hell of it.

        yeah! Also I just had a lot of fun solving these puzzle of drawing icons within the constraints of css. There are some specific use case there too, that makes it a more suitable technique than SVG. I

        I am working on animation education tool based on this icon set.

    Nice! I guess one benefit over SVG is that you can animate each element seperately? Like in this example: https://codyhouse.co/demo/stretchy-navigation/index.html - switching from the hamburger menu to the close cross

    Obviously a lot of effort has gone into this, but SVG is far better suited for icons.

      I agree, I doubted there is any use of this in real life by other people, I drawed these icons almost a year ago and put them on a shelf for the remaining time. But recently I start to think make this an educational resource, to make learning css more fun. I spent even more time on the web app than the css drawing, to make the inspector function.

      also a lot of these css icon get redrawn over and over again by front end developer, the most notably, the hamburger menu icon, I want this to be a quick reference for that purpose so we don't reinvent the wheel and waste energy on it.

      lastly I think it could be helpful when we do prototype, like on codepen, we just need some icon that works so don't want to bother with external svg files, these can be the "grab" and go icons.

    I like this idea a lot. I happened to create a few simple ones before, but definitely not as much as you did. Sometime I just too lazy to open the illustrator to grab some code. it's really nice to see someone enjoy doing this as well.

    Impressive achievement, but my question is: Does this add any benefit for the customer? Does this add value to its devs using this?
