"The all new app that’s just plane better."
Excellent pun.
Wish I could fly with Virgin America to try this out. Looks very different to any other airline app I've seen and I'm curious how it works in the real world. Also it's nice to see an app go for that big whitespace big typography approach without being devoid of personality.
Did anyone else noticed that the iPhone at "Notifications on the go" is reversed?
So is the second one on "Book flights in 60 seconds or less." Odd.
They're mockups. The carrier name is also visible as "Sketch" in a few of them.
To be honest, the experience was not that fun. It's more brand and less usable.
Really? I honestly thought it was fantastic.
I come from the background of contributing to one of the well designed travel apps in India and lot of the design parts in VA mobile come off as bullshit to me.
Try this out. https://itunes.apple.com/sg/app/cleartrip-travel-+-local-flights/id531324961?mt=8
I've been testing the beta for the past few months and while it's beautiful, it definitely has some usability issues.
Each tab has it's own prominent color, but there's no selection state, so you constantly feel lost / don't know which tab you're currently viewing. Animations on the home screen hijack your audio (assuming these are videos, v simple fix but still present in the GA release). Loading screens takeover the entire viewport, which often hang. Edge swipes to navigate back to a previous screen are disabled. :/
Overall, I prefer the mobile web experience for the booking flow, email notifications for sales/promotions to my favorite cities, and Apple Wallet integration for pulling up my ticket.
tl;dr: in its current state, I personally see no need for the app.
Finally - https://twitter.com/joe_blau/status/542330378589962244. Their mobile web experience was absolutely horrible.
Looks awesome. I fly to NYC this weekend on Virgin and will give it a spin!
Uhh, PDX is Portland, Oregon, not Seattle.
Live in Portland, can confirm. Also, they left "Sketch" in there as the carrier. Ops.
I like it, looks very intuitive.
