    I don't see anything wrong with this. It is a placeholder which would be styled by CSS. The same CSS can then also be used for the input text with opacity set to 100%.

    rgba(0,0,0,0.38) would just become rgba(0,0,0,1), or opacity: 0.38; to opacity: 1; which are much simpler changes than working out that the colour needs to be #9c9c9c.
