Thanks for sharing Maxwell!! We love DN! Thank you for the chance to share a few thoughts :)

    What is Design Inc?

Design Inc. is a platform where you can get a variety of design services by a curated group of amazing designers. We are doing a phased rollout of our platform. Yesterday we rolled out designer profiles and have been sending out a series of invites to designers to join the platform. Next week, we will launch the consumer facing side of Design Inc. which will allow folks to choose a design service and pair with a designer.

We will be launching with two design services 1) Logos, Brand & Identity & 2) Design Critiques. Many more design services coming soon (think services around illustration, visual design, UX design, VR design, marketing content etc.)

If you would like to be a designer on design inc. you can apply here if you need design services then please [join our newsletter] to be notified when we launch more broadly(http://designinc.us14.list-manage1.com/subscribe?u=2bfb488506404dc959b808d30&id=193317a7f0)

    How Design Inc. Works

    1. Select a design service. Currently we offer two services 1) Logos, Brand & Identity & 2) Design Critiques. More services coming soon!

    2. Pair with a designer. We show you a list of designers who are a great fit, then you get to pick which one you would like to work with. We will only show first name, last initial and a generic avatar on search in an effort to curve the bias inherit in avatars.

    3. Pay and start working with your designer! we back everything with a 100% money back guarantee - but we are also trying to be practical too - so if a designer is timely, well mannered and produces work we will most likely NOT refund $$$ - we have found backing a guarantee based on the aesthetics of the product to be too subjective.

    Designer Profiles

An alternative way for designers to get hire is what we rolled out today - Designer Profiles - here is mine as an example designinc.com/hemeon - as you can see I am offering both logos and design crits as services - you can hire my for one or the other and I will do my best to do a great job - here are some other great designer profiles!

    Tara Mann

    Avery Wilson

    Naim Sheriff

    Bryan Skene

Please fire away any questions you may have!

Given that so many other people have tried the same concept with varying degrees of success (Scoutzie, Folyo, Juiiicy, etc. and now Crew, which seems to be doing pretty well), what made you want to give it a try yourself? Are there specific things you want to do different/better compared to the competition?

Hi Sacha - I have observed and admired your work from a far, thank you for your question and nice to meet you.

TL;DR; We seek to commoditize design as a services and make design easy to understand and acquire, at the same time we want maximize the revenue designers yield for those services.

Building platforms and software is brutal and I have so much respect for all the sites you mentioned (including your Folyo). So I am not going to take time to criticize those who have tried something similar - at the end of the day we are all designers and I want to always be supportive of anyone who has the guts to build and launch something.

This is a relaunch for us. Two months ago we launched our first version and it didn't go so well. We made a bet that users would want to hire "hand-picked" "world-class" designers, but turns out most users cant tell the difference between a designer of your caliber and a designer one year out of school. That learning reminded me me of this classic clip with Saul Bass sharing the insight aesthetic is my problem and your problem, not the problem of business. Here are a few more learnings from our initial launch.

        • User don't care if a designer is world-class, hand-picked, vlogs or was the head designer for Uber
        • Users want to know the scope, price, timing and deliverable when they hire you
        • Users will always go to price, but will happily pay for value once they understand value
        • Designers tend to publicly overprice, and privately take deep discounts during negotiation
        • Klout matters, but not in the way you would think.
        • Design is still thought of as just aesthetics and making things beautiful (we of course want to help elevate design to a discipline that helps a company build a better business, not just look nice)
        • No one reads much
        • Most folks are dehydrated and need to drink way more water

What you will being rolled out over the next week is a reflection of the last 2-3 months of diving deeply into this problem and is a collection of mini bets and insights based on our learnings and experience. We appreciate everyones support and hope we can make our community proud.

That makes sense, thanks! A lot of it matches up with my own experience as well.

This is great insight, but I would say: "our users" and not "users" in general. Some people care ALOT if a designer worked at Uber or what not. (I think the clients at WORKINGNOTWORKING might be these type of people), so I think it's legit that there are many platforms catering for different type of clients.

Why not take this piece of text and put it on the website? At the moment there is 0 information about what the platform is.

Hi Cristian - we are approaching this in two phases - phase 1 launched last week where we are adding/inviting designers to the marketplace first followed by phase 2 which will be launching the public/consumer side of the site (hopefully sometime this week) - marketplaces are a bit chicken and egg so we needed to ensure we had a strong community of designers on the platform first.

Congrats on the launch! As I mentioned to Bjoern - loving the attention to small details like custom generated OG images. Looking forward to what evolves from this.
