Damn, the illustrations are excellent. Really nice job with the site design.
I want to share an opinion I hold, and I feel others do, but I can't fully justify why I feel it - design software in the browser sucks.
For me, having an online-version cheapens the whole experience. I see that "Use Online" button and get immediately switched off, even if it turns out to be a joy to use.
That said, I can't wait to give this a proper run tomorrow, and I hope it succeeds.
Hey Tom,
The reality is, design software in the browser has sucked (quite hard) for quite some time, so much that it's an expectation from most people that anything in the browser, by default, will suck.
Hope you enjoy giving it a proper run! We've still got a lot of work to do, plenty of basic features still in the works, but we've spent a lot of time making sure that we put ourselves on a trajectory to eventually build the first non-sucky (and totally awesome) graphics app in the browser.
Nick, CEO @ Vectr is here.
Vectr is a free collaborative vector graphics editor, for both web & desktop, that aims to help everyone create vector graphic designs easily and intuitively, using its simple yet powerful web and desktop cross-platform tool.
Hint me up here with questions or feedback!
Is it native or a web app in a wrapper?
It's a wrapper, but it's been built to run offline. Right now we can't "start" offline, but if you lose your connection you can make up to 200 changes before needing to re-connect and sync.
We'll be making this more powerful over the coming months, and moving towards a full offline/native experience without any need for a connection.
