I have to say, when I see an unsolicited redesign project, my usual reaction is to wince, but you've actually carried out a design project here, not the usual 'I made it prettier' trap that 99% of these efforts seem to fall into.
It's great to see your thoughts and reasoning laid out, as said, it makes it feel like an actual piece of design thinking, rather than a beautification exercise. Well done!
Thanks Scott!
Sorry to post this here again guys but I had some trouble with the post of yesterday. Also, this time, you will go straight to the case study on my website.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
IDK, I have been using the nike+ app for 3 years now. I really don't care about where I am at right off the bat. All I care about is that I am ahead of my friends, my performance metrics for this month are better, and then debating the distance / route I am running today when I hit "Begin Run".
Either way nice design work, research, and love the distance after the run summary. Also, took a screen shot of your the app roadmap for future designs!
Thanks Scott! Makes sense, I guess its different for everyone. I asked some runner friends of mine what they think it's important, and based on that I made this redesign.
My main intention was to make it a bit more 'thumb friendly' so you have easy access while walking / running or whatever. Just like how easy it is to use the SoundCloud app.
Please share where you will use the app roadmap haha.
Looking sharp bro. I like that it puts focus on immediately starting your run.
Thanks bro! <3
Came here for Nike+ and I ended up geeking out to your fnatic redesign. Huge fan of eSports :)
Ha! Nice : )
Nice work Aziz! Beautiful, thoughtful and well presented.
I'm curious, what did you use to put together your animations and get such clear gifs for your case?
Thanks David! I used Sketch for design and Principle for animations.
Very cool, just as I suspected. I was wondering how you managed to export such pretty looking animations. My GIF exports are almost always a blurry mess even though I believe they're exported at the appropriate size. Did you have to recreate your UI in Principle using Principle shapes and text layers?
Hey! You work looks super polished. I don't like too much the cards layout, it feel a little bit claustrophobic.
Nice work, I like the maps design you proposed.
Thanks Giulio! Since I love swiping a lot, I see the cards layout as a better solution than having a hamburger menu haha.
Cool stuff – I worked on this app for the first few years of v4, so it's really interesting to see another take/update on some of these features. Also, nice to see an "unsolicited redesign" with a focus on the tasks and usability beyond just making things prettier.
Thanks Sean! Hmm.. interesting. Do you know if this app is still being developed? If yes, is it in-house?
This is well thought through Aziz. Nice! I like that you kept the miles history / "score" for a person visible. Really smart.
The map/showing geo is a great choice too. Gives a person On this screen (first time or veteran) a really good hint as to how the app works. It also just looks really sick. Haha. Well done.
Thanks Aubrey!
