haha, I just got a PS4 controller and have been playing some classic games… specifically Chrono Trigger as detailed in the article!
I actually thought a lot about how the first few hours introduce the characters and setup all the game mechanics, and once you reach The End of Time you are in full control of your party and the world map.
I was thinking about these things in the context of game design (Since Unity and C# are proving far more interesting than tomorrow’s new JavaScript framework) but I agree there are some great lessons in classic jrpg games.
One caveat: If you spread tutorial sparkles all over your app, please, please make sure it’s possible to skip all of them at once for people who know how to use the app and are simply reinstalling it with the hope of getting things done.
