    It's an APNG (animated PNG) for browsers that support them, and then it's using a fallback to render the animation on canvas for other browsers.

    Looks like it's using this library to do it.

    If you open this link in Firefox/Safari, you should be able to see the animation in action. In Chrome, you'll just see a static image.
