    This is something I've wanted for a while, but will someone at Google Drive or Dropbox PLEASE build in some sort of .ignore functionality? I like having my code backed up to the cloud (GDrive/Dropbox + GitHub + local = triple redundancy), but I hate that I'm storing node_modules and build.

      I couldn't agree more. There was a project a while ago called dbignore, which as you would imagine, allowed you to create .dbignore files similar to a .gitignore file.

      Last I checked though, it doesn't work with the current Dropbox version.

      Although, more directly speaking to your point, why not just use Bitbucket as a redundant remote git repo? You can have an unlimited number of private repos as long as you're the only person accessing them (up to 5 people for free).

    One of the reasons I stopped using Dropbox as much as I used to (and stopped paying for it) — the 256GB drive on my MBP gets full quickly. Being able to store everything in the cloud and just grab it as needed might sway me back to paying for Dropbox.

    Edit: Providing they allow it for personal accounts.

      Surely 'pro' accounts too ;)

      I only upgraded mine to get more space, that's it... However, this new feature is awesome and agreed they should roll it out to everyone, but I could see it being a 'paid' account feature.

      To be fair they have had selective syncing for some time, but it does have the limitation of needing to use the browser to see all your files.

        I was using Dropbox as my "Documents" folder, so I'd get backups and version history for everything for "free". Until something went wrong and it overwrote a lot of my work with old versions.

        I never really used the syncing part of Dropbox, so it didn't make sense to keep paying for it. These days I just make sure I have a good backup solution (Time Machine plus Backblaze).

    My only question is how this works with documents with linked files. If I have an .ai or indesign file with linked images and I try and open them via the cloud storage will all my links be broken?

      Adobe has needed to use relative vs absolute paths for linked files for a long time, but if you add them to Creative Cloud libraries it shouldn't be an issue.

    Now i just need google drive to follow suit. I have to use google apps so i have my custom domain email, and so I am already paying $10/month for unlimited storage with drive... please google, i beg you

    As much as it sounds like a game changer this is only a better/faster interface for selective sync. Not sure why they waited so long.

    Very similar (read: identical) to BitTorrent Sync's 'selective sync' functionality. Super handy feature.
