I think Shopify is going through a bit of an Identity Crisis at the moment (Actually for a decent amount of time now). There website is riddled with so many different sorts of styles/illustrations/branding and it seems they just can't decide on one. I understand the need to A/B test, but there comes a point where switching up your entire brand like this (at least imo), and only on a few pages, will just end up confusing users.
"But how is that design going to scale to larger screens?"
"How about we just stick some big grey bars on the sides and call it done?"
So much footer.
Now they need a logo to match... ew.
